  25.      Thank you for downloading this release of the Java(r) 2 SDK, 
  26.      Standard Edition, v1.2.1. The Java 2 SDK is the development 
  27.      environment for building applications, applets, and
  28.      components that can be deployed on the Java platform.

  30.      The Java 2 SDK includes tools useful for developing and testing
  31.      programs written in the Java programming language. These tools are
  32.      designed to be used from the command line. Except for appletviewer 
  33.      utility, these tools do not provide a graphical user interface.

  35.      On Windows, a separate Java 2 Runtime Environment including
  36.      Java Plug-in is also installed with the SDK.  On Solaris, you 
  37.      can obtain this separately.  For more information,

  43.      This version of the Java 2 SDK is a maintenance release for 
  44.      version 1.2 of the SDK released last year. Version 1.2 of the SDK 
  45.      offers significant improvements in functionality, performance,

  56.      The SDK Documentation contains release documentation, Java
  57.      API specifications, developer guides, tool documentation, demos,
  58.      and links to related documentation. It is available in a separate
  59.      download bundle.

  61.      If you have not already downloaded your own local copy of the SDK
  62.      Docs, you can do so from the Java 2 SDK download page.

  64. System Requirements
  65.  
  66.      The Java 2 SDK software is available on three platforms:
  67.  
  68.         * Win32 Release for Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT on
  69.           Intel hardware. For Windows NT, only version 4.0 is
  70.           supported. A 486/DX or faster processor and at least 48
  71.           megabytes of RAM are recommended.  
  72.         * Solaris/SPARC Release. Only Solaris versions 2.5.1, 2.6
  73.           and 7 (also known as 2.7) are supported. At least 
  74.           48 megabytes of RAM is recommended.  Solaris patches
  75.           may need to be installed (see installation instructions).
  76.         * Solaris/Intel Release. Only Solaris versions 2.5.1, 2.6
  77.           and 7 (also known as 2.7) are supported. A 486/DX or 
  78.           faster processor and at least 48 megabytes of RAM are

  87.      before attempting to install the SDK software. If you also install
  88.      the separate documentation download bundle, you need an additional
  89.      90 megabytes of free disk space.
